Well, it was a great first day at my new job ... albeit, a little boring, but that's to be expected on the first day. All my co-workers seem really fun, and it feels like a good, positive work environment. They gave me a tour of the facility, I got a brand new computer, and got to meet everyone. I don't have a lot of experience in writing/project management, which is what I'll mainly be doing in this job. Since I graduated, I've been working in promotions/graphic design/marketing. That being said, I've been wanting to develop and broaden my skills within the field of communications to make myself into a more well-rounded employee. It'll make it easier to market myself to future employers down the road if I have experience in all areas of communications! So hopefully I'll learn quickly and gain the tools necessary to do a good job for them.

In other work-related news, I found out my boss from the arena is also leaving her position. I can't believe it! In just 1 month, 4 key members of that organization have left. I spoke with her today, and she asked if I would apply for her position. I told her the truth. I said that I would be there in a heartbeat, because ultimately that was the job I really wanted ... but the salary was what was holding me back. She agreed with me, and said that for the last 2 years she had been waiting for management to increase her wage, or make working there more desirable. They didn't. She had to leave, because she just wasn't getting ahead, and it wasn't worth all the long hours she had to put into that job.

Having her leave also puts my part-time job at the arena in jeopardy. She doesn't think she'll be around long enough to give the low-down to the new hire, but said she would pass on all of the info and let the new hire know that I am 100% committed to coming back. But who knows? Maybe the new person will want things run a different way, or maybe the new person will want to bring in fresh staff that they can start from scratch with. My boss said to be prepared, because changes might be made to the way things are run around there.

Financially, I don't need the job. It brings in peanuts, and I'd probably be less stressed out if I didn't do it. But, I love it. LOVE IT. I know I'd be pretty miserable if the new hire ended up not bringing me back (or any of my staff back). If it came down to it, I'd probably work for free again (which is what I did for a few months until they found it in their budget to pay me). It's all about the experience, and keeping my foot in the door while I'm off working for a non-sports related company.

And finally, my last eBay auction ended with a winning bid of $51 US!!! That was for a shirt I paid $20 CDN for two years ago!

I hate first days, no matter what. But the good part is they always end!

Sounds like you had a great camping trip, I am going to look up those lakes. Since we have been in Duncan I have been scoping out new camping places up island.

    Such good ebay sales, congrats!

That's an awesome selling price for the Ebay shirt! =)

I know what you mean about the salary thing. Sometimes you just need to get yourself established financially first, before being able to go for what you really want no matter how much or less it pays.Good luck though!

Congrats on the big ebay sale!

Make sure you try to get to know the new hire while your old boss is still around. If you keep your name in her mind, she would remember you when she does the hiring...just a thought...
