I talked to my boss, and he said that I'll be able to go on vacation!!! :) So tentatively, I'll be gone August 29 (evening) - September 10. It's not the full 2 weeks I originally wanted to take, but I forgot I'll need to use a vacation day this coming Monday 31st, as well as June 30th.
So here's what I know so far about upcoming trips:
- March 28-31: Calgary. With J.
- April 4-6: the island. Work at the arena.
- April 12-13: the island. Field hockey tournament & potential work at the arena.
- April 26-27: the island. Tentative. J wants to go camping up-island.
- May 9-11: the island. Charity concert.
- May 17-19: Vancouver. Field hockey tournament. I need to stay with my teammates in the hotel, b/c it's easier logistically than for me to spend hours taking public transit to meet them at the fields. My hotel costs will only be around $30, otherwise I'd just suck it up.
- June 6-8: the island. Work & dad's 60th birthday party.
June 27-July 1: Seattle. Exploring the city & baseball games.- August 1-4: Edmonton. Tentative. With my sister.
- August 29-September
1014: Michigan/NC & East Coast of USA. Tentative. Solo road trip.
***EDIT***
I decided to scrap the trip to Seattle, and just go down for a day trip ... that leaves me an extra vacation day ... meaning I need 1 more day in order to make it a full 2 weeks of travel. And I know I'll have at least 2 days of banked hours earned during the summer ... so I've decided to extend my vacation from September 10th to the 14th. Now, I will (almost) officially be gone from August 29-September 14th. I just need to get the days officially approved by Mr. Boss.
AND, as a bonus, J said he might fly out with me at the beginning of my trip to spend the Labour Day long weekend with me in Florida ... since round trip tickets right now are $384 CDN Seattle-Miami, all taxes and fees included. :)

Thats fabulous that you have your vacation planned already! gives you something to look forward too!
But I thought I recalled you having to go to Ontario for a Wedding in September, for which you were a bridesmaid? Or are you working that into your solo trip?
Fiona
I feel you on how to pay for traveling. I'm going to Portland for a week this summer and then hopefully Hong Kong for 10 days with short trip to Toyko while I'm there. I'm so excited, however my travel fund isn't growing as quickly as I may need it to be.
you're doing a solo road trip?? where are you going to go and see? i've never been to NC except for a stopover to connect to another flight. i'd love hear more about particular sights you'll see and travelling alone! i've found it to be kind of isolating seeing sights on my own. maybe it's not so bad.
Fiona: It's complicated, but my friend is going to have to postpone her wedding. :(
sfordinarygirl: To be honest, I prefer going on road trips by myself. Over the past few years, I've done Vancouver-Northern Alberta, and Vancouver-New York. Being by yourself, you choose where, when, and for how long you're going to stop for. You can change your path without having to consult anyone ... and it's a really good way to learn more about yourself. Traveling by myself has definitely made me more independent and resourceful. Plus, being out there on the open road, with great music playing, the sun shining ... there's nothing like it. :)
And sure, I wouldn't mind going on a road trip with J or my sister, or a very good friend ... but I'm perfectly happy going by myself as well. It's such an adventure!
As for where I plan on going ... I'm not sure. Right now, I'm starting in Detroit, and driving down the coast to Key West ... then I'm heading to New Orleans, and then right back up to Detroit again. It'll be a lot of driving (around 5 hrs/day) ... but totally worth it. In North Carolina, I most definitely will be seeing Elizabethtown, Jacksonville, and this area called Bogue Sound. That's all I've planned so far. Throughout the whole trip, I hope to stay away from the big cities for the most part. I would like to see them, but would prefer to overnight and spend most of my time visiting small towns.
