With a holiday weekend approaching, I've been super busy at work. It's 3:30pm, and I'm just eating lunch now. I'm really getting excited for the next 2 weekends.

This coming long weekend, I'm going home. I've got a hair cut scheduled, 2 shifts at the arena, lunch with my grandma, and I think I'm going indoor rock climbing with my mom and possibly J. I've set a $150 budget for this weekend, which also includes travel costs. I'm really going to have to watch my money to stick this budget, because after travel costs and my hair cut, I probably have about $60 left ... and I've got that rock climbing thing ($30? but I'm thinking my mom might pay for me), a coffee date with a friend ($2?), a dinner with my sister ($15?), and a bubble tea date with another friend ($10?). I'm supposed to see 2 more friends as well, but I'm not sure I can afford to do anything more than grab a tea at Starbucks with either of them. So this budget is doable, but yikes!

Also, I know I don't have to do so many things while I'm at home, but it's hard. I have no friends here in Vancouver, so when I finally get to go home, I feel like I have to cram all my social activity into just 2 days ... and that basically has to last me until the next time.

Next weekend, J and I are going to Calgary! :) I've also budgeted $150 for that weekend, and I was able to get the 31st (Monday) as a paid day off, so that means we won't have to rush back to Vancouver. We'll be camping on the Friday night, and then staying at his brother's for Saturday and Sunday. And his brother was able to get us the hockey tickets, so I don't anticipate the weekend being that costly. But we'll see. Food will be the main expense, I think. I'll also have to ask to see how much gas will cost. Probably not much, now that J has his new car. He also said his brother wants to go to some all-you-can-eat meat restaurant of some sort. Apparently it's popular in Calgary, but it sounds pretty gross to me. I hope they have something that doesn't involve meat on the menu. :)

So some of this money will most likely have to come from my Travel Fund, but I'm pretty sure I can scrape together some of my Entertainment/Miscellaneous money from March. I'll have to run some numbers through Quicken tonight.

Matt: Haha. I honestly don't even know the name of the restaurant, or if it really is all-you-can-eat ... all I remember J saying was that they serve a ton of meat and that's basically all they have. Plates and plates of meat. I'm pretty sure he said all-you-can-eat. I feel like it was called Bolero or Bolazo or something like that. Can't be certain. Those crazy Albertans and their meat!

It sounds like the restaurant might be a Churrascaria; a Brazilian steakhouse where they bring skewers of different types of meats by. They keep giving you meat until you flip the red/green, stop/go disk. They usually have an extensive salad bar included in the price.
Typically, I just try 2 or 3 small servings of meat.

Yeah, spending for social reasons can be a little difficult. One of my friends wanted to go out to lunch so I had coffee while she ate (I warned her before) and ate my lunch when I got back to work. I saved $8 and still got to hang out with my friend. I think your friends are more likely than anyone to understand that you are saving money. Have fun! (I'm going on a long weekend too!)

I'm intruigued by this meat place. Once you find out the name of it, could you let me know? Sounds like something my father would die for...

There's a place by my house called "Big Ts BBQ" - it's very meat heavy but very tasty. There are some veggie options too, I think.

Have fun in my hometown! :)
